Currently «Kcell» JSC* is the cellular operator rendering services of GSM-900/1800 and UMTS/WCDMA 2100 MH standard. The company was established in 1998 and since February 1999 it began rendering services of cellular communication under the trade mark Kcell. Activ brand was launched in September the same year. As of April 19, 2013 the Company's subscriber data base was 13,8 million.

From the very beginning of its operation Kcell has been playing the role of the trend setter giving tone, trends and tendency to development of the Kazakhstani cellular market. Through the dynamic actions of the Company in the Kazakhstani mobile market the Company was first to launch GPRS/EDGE technologies, and millions of Kazakhstani people got possibility to enjoy such services as Mobile Internet, WAP, and MMS throughout the country. Company was selected of the core provider of 3G mobile communication and mobile Internet for OSCE summit conducted in December 2010, and for VII Asian Winter Games in January-February 2011. Kcell started proactive 3G network development in November 2010 and as of April 19, 2013 the third generation network is available in 137 cities of Kazakhstan.

Kcell’s 3G network is offered in the most recent version of the standard, 3G UMTS/WCDMA, also known as HSPA+. It provides availability to offer all spectrum of interactive multimedia services by potentially data transfer speeds up to 21 Mbit/sec in descending channel and up to 5,7 Mbit/sec rising channel. For the past 14 years of operation Kcell continuously expands its network coverage. As of December 2012 mobile communication provided by the Company is available in 5015 cities and settlements of Kazakhstan. Company provides mobile communication in all settlements with population of 1000 people. For many years Kcell is realizing principles of socially responsible business and developing socially responsible business model . That is why the Company takes the lead in and renders support to many social important projects. Every year the Company implements about 40 social programs, and the overall volume of investments to the social sphere for the last 5 years exceeded 6,5 million USD.

*According Press Release from 27^th August 2012 per resolution of General Meeting “GSM Kazakhstan OJSC “Kazakhtelecom” LLP is reorganized into a joint stock company by transformation of legal form of the limited liability partnership. Company’s name - “GSM Kazakhstan OJSC “Kazakhtelecom” LLP is changed to “Kcell” Joint Stock Company. Based on the above, the Company has undergone the registration procedure with the Department of Justice of Almaty city.

“Kcell” Joint Stock Company is the successor of “GSM Kazakhstan OJSC “Kazakhtelecom” LLP. As a result, the newly organized legal entity acquires all rights and liabilities of the reorganized “GSM Kazakhstan OJSC “Kazakhtelecom” LLP. 13 December 2012 Kcell’s plain share trades with KCEL code started at Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE). 17 December 2012 Kcell’s GDR trades  with KCEL code started at London Stock Exchange (LSE).
