Kcell will provide live video stream of the Tour of Almaty international cycling race

To provide wireless broadcast, the Company has upgraded its base stations and installed an additional station along the cycling race route.

«In order to ensure a strong 4G+ signal, we have upgraded several base stations in the Industrial Park area and installed a new mobile station there. Another base station was installed along the mountain route for the final stage of the race» — said Kirill Strashenko, Deputy Director of Technology Department of Kcell JSC.

It is not the first time that Kcell provides technical support for the Tour of Almaty broadcast. In 2018, the Company was streaming this sporting event live from a helicopter using over 160 base stations along the entire route.

«This year we performed test flights to take measurements and test video broadcasting. The test results showed that we are ready to provide high quality signal along the entire route, which is quite sufficient for such a challenging task as uninterrupted streaming live video from a helicopter» — Strashenko added.

The Tour of Almaty is one of the major events in Kazakhstan’s sporting event calendar. The stage race was awarded category 2.1 by the International Cycling Union, which makes it unique for the countries in Central Asia. This year, two stages of this multi-day cycling event will be held on August 30 and 31. The viewers of the QAZSPORT TV channel will be able to watch it live. The decisive route of the second stage will be broadcast on the Eurosport TV channel with an audience of over 60 million viewers.

«We are, of course, glad to partner with Kcell» said Amanbek Kulchikov, vice president of the Kazakhstan Cycling Federation. — Partnering with such a technologically advanced company emphasizes the important role Tour of Almaty plays in the life of the country’s largest city. Our previous experience of working with this company gives us confidence that such a challenging task as wireless video streaming will be handled in the best possible way".

Traditionally, Kazakhstan’s professional cycling team Astana Pro Team will join the cycling race, as it has not yet missed a single Tour of Almaty race. Among the regular participants in the project are the pro-continental cycling team from France Delko Marseille Provence KTM, the Italian team Neri Sottoli Selle Italia and the Russian team Gazprom — RusVelo.

The list of participants also includes 14 continental teams, among which are Kazakhstani cycling teams — Vino Astana Motors and Apple Team. The national teams are represented by three countries — Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkey.
